Overview

This is a concept Zine promoting the tiny home lifestyle. The idea was to try to sell the benefits of a tiny home to the general public, but specifically, young millennial families who may otherwise have not considered tiny living a realistic option. Currently it only utilizes filler text, but if the magazine were to actually be printed, it would contain articles on the personal, ethical, and environmental benefits of tiny living as well as interviews of people pursuing the lifestyle.

To start, I analyzed and attempted to mimic the styles of period magazines such as Harper's, Newsweek, and Ebony. I did find some collaged pieces in my research, so I utilized it to both stay within the time period constraints while also using modern tiny homes in the zine. Tiny homes are a risk, so placing them in the context of a romanticized period, like the 50s and 60s midcentury style, brings back comfortable ideas of simplicity and a focus on the family and home to the audience. I also changed all the photos to black and white and then manually recolored them myself for added aesthetic appeal, and an attempt at blending.
